The Department of Information and Culture of the Diponegoro University Vocational School (SV Undip) held an international event in the form of a Vocational International Program (VIP) Summer Course, held online and offline on August 26-31, 2024. On the day of the event, the Dean of the Undip Vocational School, Prof. Dr. Budiyono, together with the Head of the Undip International Affairs Office (KUI), Pulung Widhi Hari H, SH LLM, said that this activity had the theme “Cultural Collaboration in Digital Narratives.” This theme was chosen as a means to establish collaboration between nations globally and build long-term cooperation between countries.
“This activity is based on the vision of SV Undip as a superior vocational education institution at the international level. SV Undip is ready to collaborate with various universities abroad to achieve this goal. The topic of this summer course is fascinating for students from Indonesia and abroad,” said Prof. Budiyono. Prof. Budiyono also added that this summer course could be a place to improve the skills, expertise, and experience of participants in mastering science and technology. Meanwhile, when opening the event, Vice Rector IV (Research and Innovation) Undip, Wijayanto SIP MSi PhD, expressed his appreciation to the organizers of the Summer Course. “This summer course is an opportunity for participants from various countries to collaborate while increasing Indonesia’s profile on the international stage,” said Wijayanto. Wijayanto also noted that the topic of this Summer Course is very relevant, considering that, in recent years, digital platforms have played an increasingly important role in human life.
In addition, the Chairperson of the Summer Course Committee, Maharani Patria Ratna MHum, said that this summer course was held in a hybrid manner (online and offline). Online activities occurred on August 26-27 and offline on August 29-31, 2024. “There were 286 online participants and 79 foreign students from 18 countries participating in this Summer Course. This event featured several speakers such as Irhamni SHum MP PhD (National Library of the Republic of Indonesia), Emilia binti Ibrahim (Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia), Nor Edzan Che Nasir, PhD (IFLA Information Literacy Section), and Fitri Alfarisy SPd MHum (Undip),” said Maharani Patria Ratna MHum. This summer course activity aims to provide insight into the latest technology that shapes digital narratives and their impact on cultural collaboration and contribute to the global discourse on cultural cooperation in digital narratives. In addition, this activity also aims to build dialogue in academia and industry.
For offline activities that take place from August 29-31, according to Maharani, Summer Course participants will be active in Lerep Tourism Village, Semarang Regency. They will interact with the local community and learn and share about cross-cultural understanding, which is different from the culture of origin of each participant.
