Minister of P2MI Visits UNDIP Vocational School to Review VOCA Migrant Corner Initiative

Semarang – The Vocational School of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) welcomed a visit from the Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Abdul Kadir Karding, to review the readiness of the VOCA Migrant Corner (VMC) initiative. VMC is a new program by UNDIP Vocational School that complements the establishment of the UNDIP Migrant Center (UMC), aimed at strengthening access to information and services for prospective skilled migrant workers.

The official launch of UMC took place during Minister Karding’s visit to UNDIP’s Tembalang Campus, witnessed by Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo. The center was inaugurated as a collaborative effort between the university and the government to expand a safer and more integrated migration system through higher education institutions.

“UMC provides valuable opportunities for UNDIP graduates, including those from the Vocational School. It is also highly beneficial for the surrounding community to gain access to overseas employment,” said Prof. Dr. Budiyono, Dean of the Vocational School of UNDIP.

As a teaching factory (TEFA), the VOCA Migrant Corner will serve as an information and education hub designed to support students, alumni, and the wider community in accessing resources on overseas job opportunities, skills training, job matching and placement services, as well as administrative consultations related to migration. This facility also plays an important role in raising students’ awareness of transnational labor issues, global work culture, and vocational-based career development.

VMC will work in synergy with the UNDIP Migrant Center, representing a cross-faculty collaboration to provide holistic services for future migrant workers.

During his visit, Minister Karding also stopped by the Investment Gallery teaching factory at the Vocational School. The gallery is expected to equip prospective migrant workers with financial literacy and investment knowledge, preparing them to better manage their income after working abroad.
