The Civil Infrastructure Engineering and Architectural Design Study Program of the Vocational School of Diponegoro University (SV Undip) collaborates with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in the International Collaboration Community Service.

The activity applies a sustainable international collaboration model in developing rural tourism and empowering local communities. The academic collaboration carries the theme of Masterplanning Rural Tourism in Karang Tengah Village and will take place on February 24-26, 2025.

This program involves all lecturers of the Civil Infrastructure Engineering and Architectural Design Study Program in collaboration with several foreign lecturers, namely Dr. Atta Idrawani bin Zaini, Mdm. Suhana (UNIMAS) and Dr. Azmal bin Sabil (UTHM) from Malaysia involve 20 internal and 28 international students from Unimas and UTHM. With an international collaboration-based approach, this activity aims to design a master plan for rural tourism in Karang Tengah Village by integrating technology and sustainable development concepts.

Participants participated in various activities for three days, including academic discussions, field surveys, and planning workshops involving the local community. With direct interaction with residents, students and academics can explore local potential and design tourism development strategies based on village characteristics and existing cultural values.

Dr. Atta Idrawani bin Zaini, a representative of lecturers from Unimas, said this activity dramatically benefits students and the local community.

“Through this program, we hope to provide real contributions to sustainable rural tourism planning, as well as strengthen academic and professional networks between Undip, Unimas, and UTHM,” he said.

This activity also supports Undip’s internationalization program and strengthens academic synergy between Southeast Asian universities. With cross-country collaboration, students gain academic insight and experience applying knowledge directly in the field.

The International Collaboration Community Service activity, Masterplanning Rural Tourism in Karang Tengah Village, is expected to model sustainable international cooperation in developing rural tourism and empowering local communities.
