The Applied Foreign Language Study Program of the Vocational School of Diponegoro University has held a Visiting Professor activity by inviting Professor Fumihiro Takase from The Japanese Red Cross Kyushu International College, Japan during September – November 2021. The Visiting Professor which was held online via Zoom was carried out in five meeting agendas . The first meeting was held on September 28, 2021 with the theme “Intercultural Understanding”. Meanwhile, the second series of activities will be held on October 29, 2021 at 10.00 WIB, with the theme “Culture Shock in Japan” which was attended by 300 students and all lecturers of the Applied Foreign Language Studies program at the Vocational School of Diponegoro University. The third and fourth series of Visiting Professor events will be held simultaneously on November 5, 2021 with the title “Communication, lifestyle, and work in Japan.” These discussions and public lectures were delivered using foreign languages, namely Japanese and English.

To conclude the series of Visiting Professor activities, a “Learning and Teaching Foreign Language Through Movie” training was held which was attended by all lecturers of the Vocational School Applied Foreign Language study program. In addition, several lecturers from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences were also interested in participating in this training. Overall, the Visiting Professor activity received tremendous enthusiasm, both from students and lecturers. Through a series of five webinars that have been held, it is hoped that it can provide more insight and experience for students and lecturers. As a follow-up to this activity, the Applied Foreign Language study program will explore cooperation with The Japanese Red Cross Kyushu International College, Japan to support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Undip Vocational School Prof.Dr.Ir.Budiyono, MSi said that it was hoped that these activities in addition to increasing student competence as well as encouraging and accelerating the formation of a vocational language center (VLC). VLC is expected to become a Teaching Industry for the practice of learning various specific vocational languages ​​in order to enter the world of work”.
