PKKMB (Introduction to Campus Life for New Students) is an orientation program for new students held in almost all colleges in Indonesia, including at Undip Vocational School. The program introduces new students to campus life, academic culture, facilities, and student activities. In vocational schools, PKKMB usually includes several activities, such as:
- Academic Briefings: where new students are given information about the curriculum, lecture schedule, learning methods, and evaluation system.
- Character Strengthening: This activity aims to shape the character and mentality of students so that they are ready to face academic and non-academic challenges during college.
- Introduction of Student Organizations: Students are introduced to various student organizations, such as BEM, SME, and departmental student associations, to encourage participation in non-academic activities.
- Socialization and Community Activities: This activity includes games, group discussions, and other informal events to strengthen new students’ relationships. Socialization of Campus Policies and Services: Students are provided with information on campus regulations, student services, campus facilities, and ethics and order that must be adhered to.
PKKMB at Undip Vocational School generally emphasizes students’ readiness to enter the world of work after graduation, given that the main focus of the Vocational School is to provide practical skills ready for use in industry. Therefore, this is the motivation of the Dean of the Undip Vocational School, Prof. Dr. Budiyono, in the presence of 1,848 new students at Muladi Dome. “Yes, because applied science can be immediately useful to society, and the benefits are great,” Prof. Dr. Budiyono said on Monday, August 13, 2024. According to the Dean, sound science will bring prosperity to the world and the afterlife. “If a person dies, three things are rewarded: charity, useful knowledge, and a lonely child who prays for his parents,” he said.
