SEMARANG – In support of the national certification program initiated by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), Diponegoro University’s Vocational School (SV Undip) has partnered with the International Institute of Welding (IIW), PT INLASTEK, and SLV Mannheim Germany (The German Welding Institute-Mannheim) to provide welding training for students in the Naval Architecture Engineering Technology Program (TRKP). The training, which began on September 23, 2024, aims to produce certified professional welders.

Dr. Mohd. Ridwan, S.T., M.T., Head of the TRKP Study Program at SV Undip, explained that the International Institute of Welding is an international association focused on advancing knowledge in the field of welding and related technologies. “A Welding Inspector is a professional responsible for examining the quality of welding work and controlling the weld joint quality according to the specified procedures, standards (ISO, AWS, API), or applicable codes,” he stated during a press briefing on campus, Wednesday (October 2, 2024).

Dr. Ridwan also elaborated that a Welding Specialist supervises the fabrication process, while a Welding Engineer is responsible for designing welding procedures and specifications. This program, held annually, involves students from the TRKP study program and is supported by alumni from the Naval Engineering program and the Undip Naval Alumni Foundation.

Through this training, students will receive Professional Welding Certification, which will serve as a crucial asset in their careers, whether in manufacturing, construction, shipbuilding, or the oil and gas industry.

The welding training was also attended by several notable alumni from the Undip Naval Alumni Association (IKA), including Suwito, as well as experienced instructors and educators such as Sulaiman, Sugiarto, and Eko Majiyanto. This training is expected to equip students with internationally recognized competencies, preparing them for successful careers in the industry. (Sgi)
