D4 Applied Foreign Language students, Japanese Language concentration, Diponegoro University Vocational School (SV Undip) Adinda, and Ananda Nikita carried out Field Work Practice (PKL) at PT Hino Motors Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI), Purwakarta, West Java, for six months.
Internship student Adinda said that HMMI is a company engaged in the manufacturing and automotive assembly of buses and trucks from Japan.
“The selection of the PKL location at HMMI was because the company is from Japan so that we can learn the work culture and at the same time collect data for the final assignment on Japanese vocabulary in manufacturing companies,” explained Adinda.
PT Hino Motors Manufacturing Indonesia is a Japanese PMA (Foreign Investment) manufacturing company engaged in manufacturing trucks and buses whose products are known to be environmentally friendly. PT HMMI itself is a subsidiary of Hino Motors Ltd in Japan.
Work Culture PT HMMI implements the same Japanese work culture as its parent company, Hino Motors Ltd, in Japan. Examples of Japanese work culture are Kaizen, time discipline, etc.
Adinda and Nikita are each placed in the Purchasing Division, Planning and Operation Management Department (POM), and the Human Resource Division (HRD) Department of Organization and People Development (OPD).
The Purchasing-Planning and Operation Management (POM) Division is responsible for planning and budgeting. Operation management is responsible for ensuring that all suppliers are not problematic and maintaining/minimizing them so that the HMMI production line does not stop (is constrained).
The scope of work includes planning and supervising the operational procurement of goods and purchasing components to assist production operations—internship activities in the Purchasing – POM division.
While HRD-OPD is responsible for developing human resources and the company’s organization, the OPD Department focuses on sustainable development and increasing employee capacity through various training programs, competency development, and talent management.
The scope of work includes career development planning, employee competency assessment, designing human resource development strategies that are in line with the Company’s vision and mission, creating SOPs, creating policies that employees need to comply with, and Preparation Hoshin, which is the central policy planning that guides the Company’s work for the following year.
Based on the internship activities at PT Hino Motors Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI), I am learning how to work in real-world work practices. Most of this experience is not obtained in lectures. Where in the world of work, there is more practice.
Muhammad Irfan Mahendra, Specialist in the OPD Division HRD Department of PT Hino Motors Manufacturing Indonesia, also the coordinator of student interns, said that Nikita had carried out the internship program, where her coordination and communication were also perfect during the internship. “A message to India, especially the Applied Foreign Language study program SV Undip, to continue to develop cooperation with our company,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wisnu Raditio, Head of Section at the Purchasing-Planning and Operation Management Division Department, Purchasing Division, PT Hino Motors Manufacturing Indonesia, who accompanied Adinda, said that during her internship at his Company, Adinda was very persistent and open to new things.
“She also contributed to the activities during the internship to us. This internship is expected to increase the selling value and competence when graduating from college later. After this internship, it is expected to improve their Japanese language skills so that they are competitive when looking for work; we thank you for the trust of the Applied Foreign Language Study Program, Undip Vocational School, to place their students to intern here,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the D4 Applied Foreign Language Study Program, Diponegoro University Vocational School, Sriwahyu Istana Trahutami, said that the purpose of the internship is to allow students to apply what they have learned during their education through additional activities (active participation).
Students entering the world of work must prepare themselves as well as possible. They not only have to compete in academic disciplines at college, but students must also have work experience, knowledge, and understanding of the world of work.
