Alumni Career Path: From Campus to the World of Work, Civil Infrastructure Engineering and Architectural Design Study Program Undip

In an increasingly competitive world of work, the journey of an alumni of the Civil Infrastructure Engineering and Architectural Design Study Program is a real example of how dedication, time management, and involvement in various activities can pave the way to success. Audrey Lize Saadiya is one inspiring example. Who works at Jiangsu Suzhong Construction Group as a Quantity Surveyor (QS). Although still undergoing training at the Head Office, she has shown high dedication and commitment to her work. In a team of seven people, Audrey focuses on calculating the volume of work in the field and managing payments and claims from subcontractors.

Before her current career, Audrey had gained valuable experience while studying at college through internship programs in two places. Her first internship was four months on the Tawang Ngalang road and bridge project segments 2 and 3 in Gunungkidul. There, she was directly involved in project implementation, supervising and controlling the process in the field. After that, she continued her internship at PT Freeport Indonesia, where she worked in the Supply Chain Management Department as a drafter, focusing on traffic management concepts and warehouse layout arrangements.

During her college years, she focused on academics and was active in various activities. She was a student assistant in multiple assignments and practicums, including road planning and cost estimation. According to her, the road paving practicum was a challenge in itself, especially since she was also doing an internship at the same time. Good time management skills are needed to complete all these responsibilities. Audrey believes that students must actively upgrade their knowledge and skills to compete in the world of work.

In addition, Audrey is also active in campus organizations. She was the head of the construction division in a student organization and was involved in the Student Executive Board (BEM) and the Civil and Architecture Student Association (HMSA). Her involvement in these organizations expanded her social network and provided valuable experience in leading and managing large programs. Audrey emphasized the importance of organizational expertise to hone soft skills that are very much needed in the professional world. Through her experience, Audrey wants to convey to students and the younger generation that they should not waste their opportunities. She believes that every challenge faced is part of the learning process. “Our life is a series of the first time,” she said. Everyone should dare to face challenges and take opportunities to learn and grow. By finding passion and honing skills early on, they can prepare themselves for a brilliant career in the future. Don’t just be an ordinary student; be the best in your field of interest.

Applying TEFA Learning, UNDIP Vocational School Graduates Win Doctoral Scholarships at Pukyong National University & Chulalongkorn University

The Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology Study Program (TRKI) Vocational School, Diponegoro University (UNDIP), has initiated the OB TVET (Principles, Infrastructure, and Superstructure) learning concept to prepare graduates to perform according to the needs of the millennial industry. The vocational learning system developed focuses on Outcome Education (OBE), which is modified by a Dual System and integrated with a Digitalization Teaching Factory to welcome Cybergogy learning, namely actively linking creativity through web 4.0, communicating, collaborating in Cyber, self-regulated, ownership, generative, Inspirator, and humans are meaningful.

Head of the Study Program, Mohamad Endy Yulianto, said that most TRKI graduates are absorbed in industry, and some continue to Masters, Doctoral, and Entrepreneurship levels. Most alums who continue their Masters and Doctoral degrees, such as England, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan, go abroad. Qurrotun A’yuni Khoirun Nisa’, usually called Ayuni, is currently studying an integrated master-doctoral degree program at Pukyong National University, South Korea, majoring in polymer engineering, while Yusuf Arya is continuing his Doctoral studies at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.

Ayuni, when contacted via Zoom, said that this achievement was inseparable from valuable guidance and encouragement from various parties. Of course, the guidance of the dedicated lecturers and moral support from colleagues are the main pillars of this achievement. All the experiences and lessons I received shaped my academics and my character as an individual who is ready to face future challenges.

Ayuni expressed her gratitude for being able to study at the Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology Study Program at the UNDIP Vocational School. The TRKI learning system, which implements a Dual System integrated with the Teaching Factory, is one of the pillars so that further study for Masters and Doctoral degrees can be accepted. It was conveyed that practical replication learning at the mini plant and practical replication through lecturers’ research provided more than enough skills and competencies to study abroad. Through this experience, I plan to contribute significantly to research and innovation at the global level. Of course, none of this would have been achieved without the help of lecturers, staff, friends, and the university, who have supported me throughout this journey.

Arya also experienced the same thing; they said that being equipped with research capabilities, mastering the use of equipment in the laboratory and pilot plant, as well as publishing scientific articles allowed him to study for a master’s degree abroad starting in 2022 with a full scholarship, namely Excellent Foreign Student. (EFS) by Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Thammasat University, Thailand. During my master’s studies, I was involved in a more intensive academic environment with higher expectations for research and scientific work. Various courses, research projects, and engagement in discussions have substantially expanded my knowledge. “This reminds me of the important role of engineering and technology in the context of sustainability during my studies at TRKI Vocational Undip,” explained Arya.

Arya also added that in the research process, he was involved in more complex experiments, analyzed and visualized more in-depth data, and faced more complicated methodological challenges. More than that, the intensive academic atmosphere in the TRKI Study Program encouraged me to continue to innovate and be creative. The learning method in the TRKI Study Program replicates the practice of implementing independent learning, such as research and community service activities for lecturers and staff. The course learning method is TEFA-based and implemented directly at TEFA, and students replicate the practice at the mini plant to improve their skills. “Therefore, these pillars led to Doctoral education at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, by obtaining a C2F PhD scholarship (Funding for high-efficiency Ph.D. candidates under the Second Century Fund), concluded Arya.

PT. PLN (Persero)
Diploma III Alumni of Electrical Engineering, Diponegoro University Vocational School Class 2016

I feel proud to have been part of the Undip Electrical Engineering D3 family. We gain a lot of knowledge, from hard skills related to the electrical learning family on campus, both verbally and practically. As well as soft skills related to communication, leadership, problem solving, etc. Maybe some people only glance at one eye because we are D3, but instead I am proud and grateful about it. Now the knowledge that I have received in college, can be very useful for my daily work. Continued success and success in Undip Electro Vocational Studies!

It is an honor to be part of the Undip Vocational School. Currently growing tremendously, the development of study programs, not only as a learning development center and research center but also practical science. This is certainly very useful, graduation immediately ready for work. It is proven that I can directly implement the knowledge that I get in my work at PLN. A very comfortable learning atmosphere is supported by complete facilities, as well as mutually supportive harmony between students, lecturers and employees. In addition, the existence of a solid Student Association and Senate makes students develop in a balanced way between soft skills and hard skills. I really feel how the campus really supports its students in community service, research, entrepreneurship and good achievements both nationally and internationally.
